Tips for Applying

We appreciate that making a good application requires time and effort. In order to make your application the best it can be, our advice would be:

• Do your research. Review the main G&T website www.gardiner.com to get a feel for the type of projects we work on and our core business services. It is important to show in your application that you have an appreciation of both G&T and the construction industry.

• Tell us why you want to undertake your work experience placement at G&T. We are aware that you will be making a number of applications for work experience but try to avoid generic copy and paste answers as they do not do justice to your application.

• We do get lots of application for work experience placements so make sure that you use this opportunity to really shine and stand out from the crowd. This is your opportunity to sell yourself to us. Think about who will be reading your application and use appropriate language. Try to keep paragraphs succinct and relevant while giving us enough specific information to make a decision.

• Remember it is not only your academic achievements we are interested in but other activities you have been involved in outside of your studies. Give us a chance to get to know you a little bit by telling us something about your interests, passions and leisure pursuits.

• Spelling, grammar and proof reading are important and help to make a good first impression. It sounds rather obvious, however an otherwise strong application can be let down by poor attention to detail. It is worth getting someone else to check through your application before submitting.
